Exotics are a hot topic right now, sparked in large part from Bungie’s weekly blog post and upcoming plans for Destiny 2. Unfortunately, nerfs are on the horizon in season 7 and many fan favorite items are in the cross hairs. Whisper of the Worm is getting its White Nail perk reworked for PvE balancing, no longer being able to create ammo and instead simply pulling form reserves. Other exotic weapons are getting adjusted as well including Sleeper Simulant, Ace of Spades, and more.
Unfortunately, super generating class armor like Shards of Galanor, Ursa Furiosa, and Phoenix Protocol are also getting reworked. With these adjustments, Bungie intends to prevent players from earning full supers back immediately after using them. Naturally, the community has not taken well to the news, with many asking why Bungie feels the need to nerf fun things and make players feel less powerful.
With Bungie pushing players to try some of the lesser known or used exotics, Xur has arrived just in time in Destiny 2 with an all new inventory for players to look at. Here’s where players can find Xur, get details on the latest Invitation of the Nine quest, and find out exotic items are on offer for the weekend of May 17, 2019.
Where is Xur?
This weekend, Xur is back on Titan, a location he typically frequents more often than not.
Fast travel to The Rig and start heading towards the open area in front of the large building that houses the Solarium zone. In a nearby building where the Fallen and Hive occasionally battle, Xur can be found hanging out.
Invitation of the Nine Quest Week 10
The final Invitation of the Nine quest switches things up this week by asking players to jump into the Crucible.
Here are the details:
- Death – Complete 3 Quickplay, 3 Competitive, and 3 Rumble matches in the Crucible.
While Xur has Forsaken exotics again on sale this week, Bungie has ironically included one of the previously mentioned items in line for an upcoming nerf. As always, players can roll the dice by picking up a Fated Engram which has a great chance to give the layer an exotic from the Forsaken expansion.
Here are all three gear pieces for this weekend:
Geomag Stabilizers – Warlock leg armor
First time on offer, the Geomag Stabilizers are an extremely valuable exotic for Warlocks using Chaos Reach. The intrinsic perk on this item is called Close Enough which fills the players super meter by running when it’s nearly full. In addition, hitting enemies with Chaos Reach extends the supers duration.
While this is an item that helps players earn super meter, something that was specifically targeted by Bungie in their weekly update, Geomag Stabilizers were not mentioned specifically by name for the upcoming nerf. Either way, it’s a great exotic item and one that all Chaos Reachers should have in their inventory.
- Resilience OR Mobility
- Fusion Rifle Dexterity, Hand Cannon Dexterity, Outreach
- Scout Rifle Scavenger OR Special Ammo Finder
Celestial Nighthawk – Hunter helm
The Celestial Nighthawk helmet is up for Hunters this week. It’s an item that is intended for players using the Gunslinger’s Golden Gun subclass. Its intrinsic perk is Hawkeye Hack which modifies the Golden Gun to fire a single, high damage shot. Enemies killed by the shot explode and the player gets a moderate portion of super energy returned.
Golden Gun is still a very viable super, especially when dealing with PvE bosses in strikes, raids, and even prime evils in Gambit. The damage output makes it a huge help when fighting tough bosses. Its effectiveness is reduced somewhat in Crucible considering that Golden Gun is typically a 1 hit kill on enemy targets regardless, though the potential of an explosive kill still makes it a viable option.
- Restorative OR Resilience
- Fusion Rifle Targeting, Hand Cannon Targeting, Hands On
- Sniper Rifle Reserves OR Machine Gun Reserves
Ursa Furiosa – Titan gauntlets
The Ursa Furiosa is a Forsaken exotic that is geared towards Sentinel Shield Titans. Its exotic perk, Ursine Guard, enables the player to move faster when guarding with Sentinel Shield. However, the best part of this perk is that blocked damage will convert into additional super energy once the super ends, similar to other class exotics like the Shards of Galanor for Hunters.
As mentioned above, the Ursa Furiosa exotic gauntlets are slated to receive a nerf which is intended to reduce its effectiveness at regenerating super energy. Until that happens, this is a pretty strong Titan exotic, though it’s going to be hard to judge how good this exotic will be once the upcoming patch is released. As such, it’s hard to recommend not knowing what the future holds for this item.
Fixed Gear Rolls:
- Resilience OR Resilience
- Fusion Rifle Loader, Hand Cannon Loader, Impact Induction
- Sniper Rifle Scavenger OR Machine Gun Scavenger
In what could be considered ironic, the D.A.R.C.I. exotic sniper rifle is back on sale this weekend. The intrinsic perk known as Personal Assistant gives the player access to critical information like health and distance when the scope is aimed at an enemy. Synchronizing with that is the exotic trait Target Acquired, which activates when Personal Assistant is used. Essentially, it gives the weapon better target acquisition and deals significantly more precision damage.
With the recent news that Whisper of the Worm is set to receive a pretty substantial rework, it’s quite possible that D.A.R.C.I. would then be in line to capitalize in the eyes of players. It was a sniper rifle that was once regarded as a top weapon for doling out a lot of damage quickly. While the Whisper became the gold standard once it became available, this is still a weapon that’s worth a buy for those that don’t have it, especially once the new patch arrives.
Here’s the complete rundown of Xur’s entire stock in Destiny 2 for May 17:
