The Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order reveal trailer is, at the moment, one of the most significant points of discussion in the gaming industry. People have been picking apart many aspects of the trailer, including that of its story, characters, and settings, but one of the most contentious topics at the moment is the original owner of the protagonist’s damaged lightsaber, which is said to be “iconic.”

Along with a teaser image displaying the lightsaber from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, multiple parts of the trailer also show the protagonist, Cal, wielding the lightsaber, with one one specific moment putting full emphasis on it by showing Cal study the lightsaber. In EA’s “Become a Jedi” Twitch stream from the Star Wars Celebration, where game director Stig Asmussen and Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella revealed the trailer and talked it afterwards, Asmussen suggested the lightsaber “will grow and evolve” during the events of the game, but details remain scarce on the lightsaber’s origins, which seem to be important.

The image shown above, as well as an earlier Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order teaser image depicting the same destroyed lightsaber hilt have been circulating the internet as part of a greater topic regarding the lightsaber’s original owner, which is, supposedly, very significant. During a Reddit discussion regarding the lightsaber’s owner, users suggested multiple owners, including the prequel trilogy’s Mace Windu, as well as one of Cal’s masters. Another name that was mentioned was Revan from favorite Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic, but more consistently, the name Bastila Shan, from the same game, has been mentioned.

Gamers and Star Wars fans may assume the lightsaber is important anyhow, as the description for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on the Xbox Store states that, on the journey, players will “pick up the pieces of your shattered past to complete your training, develop new powerful Force abilities, and master the art of the iconic lightsaber.” The meaning of iconic is fairly ambiguous at any rate, but it still may suggest that the lightsaber does belong to someone from the Star Wars lore.

There are so many intriguing components of the trailer for Respawn’s latest effort, and the lightsaber is unquestionably one of them. If it is as iconic as people believe it is right now, the possibilities are bountiful, as Star Wars contains a rich history of characters between the feature films and Expanded Universe. Only time will tell who the iconic lightsaber once belonged to.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will launch November 15, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
